Hawaii's Valentine cut from 'Nashville Star'

Hawaii-born entertainer and would-be country singer Tasha Valentine gave her all on the third episode of the combination talent- and reality-show “Nashville Star” on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough for the show’s judges, who cut her from the competition at the conclusion of the broadcast. But her aunt tells HawaiiNews.com that the world “won’t be seeing the last of Natasha Kaiulani Valentine.”

Valentine’s aunt, Lori Nutter, said her daughter’s elimination from the show could be a blessing in disguise.

“This could be a really good thing,” said Nutter, a Kaiser High School graduate. “Several record producers have contacted her in the past couple of weeks and tell her not to worry — she’s going places.”

During the Saturday broadcast, Valentine performed Elvis Presley‘s “Little Sister,” which she described as a tribute to “the king of rock ‘n’ roll and the love of my life.” But the response from the judges was lukewarm.

“I don’t know, Natasha, you’re a torch singer,” said judge Robert Oermann. “I don’t think you’re a rocker; it didn’t work for me.”

Celebrity guest Wynonna Judd was backstage with Valentine and the other contestants when the judges’ decision was announced. An emotional Valentine told the show’s host Nancy O’Dell, “I’m a crier.”

O’Dell replied: “I know you’re gonna put out a CD, and you know who’s gonna be first in line to buy it? Me! And all these people.”

Including her aunt, who said: “All of us here in Albuquerque and fans from Hawaii, California, Arizona, Illinois and Nashville couldn’t be more proud of her.”

Also eliminated Saturday was Kristen Kissling of Austin, Texas, through audience votes from the previous week’s show.

Valentine was named as one of the twelve finalists earlier this month. “Nashville Star” airs on the USA Network.

Tasha, Don’t worry girl, Your going places with a voice like that. You have the best pipes since Patsy Cline. I love your voice and you are so cute. You go girl!!! I will be looking for Cds you put out and hopefully soon. I would love to hear you sing some old songs and new songs. Old songs like Someone to watch over me, probably a 1950’s song, Cricket use to sing it on an old show call 77 Sunset Strip. I would love to hear you do that song and others like it. Don’t let them change you and hang in there, you are going to be a Star!!! Sincerely, MartieH.

  • I THINK THE JUDGES SET UP THE CONTESTANTS WITH COMMENTS TO THROW THEM OFF CENTER. ADVICE COMMENTS. PRENTESS WAS ABSOLUTELY GREAT JUST THE WAY HE WAS. THE LAST SONG HE SANG WAS WONDERFUL. TRAVIS WAS VOTED OFF BECAUSE THE LADY JUDGE BRANDED HIM SAYING HE WAS NOT ABOUT VOCALS, THAT HE WAS ABOUT BEING A BAD BOY. WELL TRAVIS WAS ALL ABOUT VOCALS. AND HIS OWN STYLE. THE JUDGES ARE TRYING TO SET UP BRANDI. WHAT AN INCREDABLE SHOWMAN AND A GREAT BELT OUT SINGER. DON’T LET THE JUDGES THROW YOU OFF BRANDI. BE TRUE TO YOURSELF, LISTEN AND LEARN. NASHVILLE STAR IS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE FOR ALL OF US. PERFORMERS AND AUDIENCE. ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I AM. THE ONE I WOULD LOVE HEAR FROM IS WYONIA. WHAT SHE REALLY THINKS.
I WILL BE WATCHING SATURDAY NIGHT. GOOD LUCK. JEANNE REED/PHOENIX

  • TASHA WAS ROBBED-AS FAR AS I AM CONSERENED, SHE WAS BY FAR THE BEST ENTERTAINER OF THE WHOLE GROUP-SHE HAS A FANTASTIC VOICE, STAGE PRESENTS,BEAUTIFUL SMILE & ALWAYS THE FLOWER BEHIND HER EAR, IS HER TRADE MARK, HONORING HER HAWAIIAN ROOTS.
NO, YOU HAVE NOT HEARD THE LAST OF TASHA VALENTINE. SHE IS MOVING TO NASHVILLE,TN, TO START TO WORK ON SEVERAL CONTACTS MADE THERE.
AS ROBERT OERMANN(ONE OF THE JUDGES) SAID *YOUNG LADY YOU BELONG ON THAT STAGE* & BELIEVE ME, SHE KNOWS HOW TO WORK THAT STAGE! WHEN SHE DID PATSY CLINE ON THE LEGENDARY SUPERSTARS SHOW, PATSY HERSELF WOULD HAVE SAID, GIRL YOU DO THOSE SONGS BETTER THAN I DO THEM! ALMOST EVERY TIME AFTER PERFORMING, SHE GOT A STANDING OVATION!
IT TAKES A WHILE TO GET A CD PRODUCED & OUT, BUT WATCH FOR HER CD’S, I PROMISE, YOU’LL LOVE THEM & HER!

You are one spunky gal who has been blessed with a gift of song, beautiful eyes, and a gorgious smile. Never deprive your fans by giving up. Stick that chin up, dig deep, and know you are loved in a very sincere way. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!

  • I watched the entire show every Saturday night and with each show one could tell that the show was rigged to the point that I will never purchase a Sony product and the ones I have will be replaced by another brand as they wear out
