Wahine heading to Final Four

The second-ranked UH Rainbow Wahine women’s volleyball team beat the fourth-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers tonight 30-25, 25-30, 30-27 and 30-21. The win pushes the Wahine to 34-1 for the season, and puts them on the road to New Orleans for their seventh trip to the NCAA Championships.

The Cornhuskers made the Wahine work for each point, enjoying the home-field advantage in front of a crowd of 4,300 at the Nebraska University Coliseum. UH led most of the way in game one, but Nebraska rarely let the Wahine lead by more than three or four points. The 30-25 win was Nebraska’s first loss at home this season.

Nebraska struck back in game two, holding a five point lead much of the way, beating Hawaii 30-25.

The Cornhuskers launched into an early 4-1 lead in game three, holding the Wahine off by four points or more until the score was 11-7. Hawaii quickly tied it 13-13, but the teams traded tough points the rest of the way before the Wahine took it 30-27. And the Wahine were on fire for game four, taking it 30-21.

The Cornhuskers end their season 31-2.

Hawaii will play Stanford on Dec. 19. The winner of that match will play the winner of the Southern California-Florida contest for top honors.
