BYU-Hawaii trounces New Haven, 3-0

The BYU-Hawaii women’s volleyball team shut down Connecticut’s Univ. of New Haven today, winning decisively 30-10, 30-15, 30-18. The BYU-Hawaii Seasiders — now 25-2 in the NCAA Division II — advance to the semifinals, and will play Saturday against the winner of tomorrow’s Tampa-Northern Colorado game.

The Seasiders opened strong, at one point leading 12-0 in game one. The Chargers led 3-2 in the second, but the Seasiders soon overtake them 6-5, taking the game and leading the rest of the match. BYU-Hawaii’s Yu Chuan Weng earned national Freshman of the Year honors.

The Seasiders have made it to the NCAA Elite Eight only once before. The Chargers’ loss ends a 29-game winning streak, and ends their season 34-6.
