Governor boosts board, commission rosters

Over 150 Honolulu residents appointed by Gov. Linda Lingle to serve on various state boards and commissions were officially sworn in today at a ceremony held at Washington Place. Chief Justice Ronald Moon presided over the ceremony, which is the first of several to follow across the state. “Serving on a board or commission is one way for the public to actively participate in state government and help improve our communities,” Lingle said in a press release. “We appreciate the members’ willingness to volunteer their time and diverse expertise, and we value the contributions they make to help government be more responsive, efficient and effective.”

Nearly 1,500 people serve on 146 boards and commissions statewide.

This year, there are 100 vacant positions on various boards and commissions, with 300 more vacancies expected as some members’ terms expire next year. Residents interested in serving are invited to learn more by visiting the Boards and Commissions section of the Governor’s website.
