Police seek Waikiki purse snatcher

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department want the public’s assistance in identifying the male suspect who robbed a woman in Waikiki on Sunday, January 4, in the front of a Waikiki apartment building on the Ala Wai Boulevard. Anyone with information may contact Detective Taro Nakamura at 529-3382.


At about 5:40 p.m., the 93-year-old caucasian female and her husband were returning with groceries when the suspect held the security gate open and asked to assist them. When they declined the help, the male asked another question of the woman and before she could answer,struck her on the forehead, grabbed her purse and ran away.

Suspect Description

  • Caucasian male, early 20’s
  • 5’6″, 160 lbs.
  • Blue eyes, tan complexion
  • Short dark brown hair (possible pony tail)
  • Wearing dark sunglasses, white t-shirt blue jean shorts, light colored athletic shoes
