Wahine beat Huskies, make NCAA Regionals

The UH Rainbow Wahine volleyball team fought hard for their win over the Huskies of the University of Washington tonight, 30-26, 39-37, 30-25. The second-ranked Wahine (32-1) now move on to the “Sweet 16,” the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

Washington led Hawaii at the beginning of all three games. The Wahine struggled long and hard to tie the second game at 19 points, but gave up the first game point to the Huskies at 29-28. Then it was a point-to-point battle, with the Wahine finally taking it 39-37.

Tournament matches scheduled for the weekend will determine what teams Hawaii will play next on Sunday, Dec. 8 in the NCAA Regionals. A win by North Carolina tonight over South Carolina guarantees that they will be among the opponents Hawaii will face.

The Huskies go home 22-11 for the season.
