Sunset on the Beach returns to Waikiki
The city’s popular Sunset on the Beach program returns to Waikiki this weekend. The “food-music-movie fest” will be held at Queen’s Surf Beach on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15, and is sponsored by the International Marketplace through owner and manager The Queen Emma Foundation.
Live entertainment will include Mehana and the Polynesian Cultural Center on Saturday and the five-piece funk jazz band All Jammed Up on Sunday. Food booths will offer popular menu items from local restaurants including Bale French Sandwich and Restaurant, Moani’s Country Kitchen, The Nutty Hawaiian, Slush Puppie, East West BBQ, and Mr. Pizza. And the featured movies — shown on a giant, 30-foot outdoor screen — will be “Stuart Little 2” on Saturday and “Tomorrow Never Dies” on Sunday.
The Sunset on the Beach (also known as Sunset in the Park) program, buoyed by private sponsors and hosted by communities ranging from Waimanalo to Waipahu, has drawn hundreds of locals into the traditionally visitor-focused Waikiki business district, and brought visibility and business to other Honolulu communities.
In addition to International Market Place, the December Sunset on the Beach is co-sponsored by the Hawaii Restaurant Association, the Waikiki Improvement Association, News 8, K5 The Home Team and FM 105 KINE radio.
