Hawai`i woman wins Emmy
Local girl Faith Rivera took home an Emmy Award on Saturday for a song she co-wrote for the NBC soap opera Passions. The song, “Forever Near,” was broadcast in August as a tribute to late actor Josh Ryan Evans. Riviera, born and raised on Kaua`i, is now a singer and songwriter in Long Beach.
Rivera and co-writer John Henry Kreitler were on hand to receive the Emmy for Outstanding Original Song at the May 10 ceremony in Los Angeles.
“We are absolutely thrilled at John and Faith’s Emmy win,” said Passions producer Lisa de Cazotte. “Their win also marks the show’s first Emmy, so as you can imagine, the cast and crew are all very excited.”
“Forever Near” was up against two songs from Port Charles and two songs from All My Children, both ABC shows.
Riviera, who also works as a soloist and youth choir director at Covenant Presbyterian church, has released four albums and has worked as a session singer with artists including Luther Vandross and Jon Secada. She regularly collaborates with island musician Daniel Ho, and is involved in producing local events like
the recent Womens Festival of the Arts.
